Metro railway infrastructure

Explore metro track construction, curves, switches, electrical supply, viaducts, tunnels and platform clearances through interactive teaching models.

What you can explore

Track construction
The rail is only the top layer. Inspect the supports underneath, then compare a ballast bed with a concrete slab.
Curves & gradients
Change the railway’s shape and follow the carriage. Radius, speed and gradient describe different demands on the journey.
Track switches
A small rail movement chooses an entire route. Set the blades, then follow the carriage through the junction.
Power supply
Follow a complete electrical path from the substation to the train and back. Compare collection from above with collection beside the track.
Viaducts & tunnels
The same railway can rest on a bridge deck or sit within a tunnel. Open each structure to inspect what carries and surrounds it.
Clearances & platforms
A rigid carriage does not follow a curve in the same way as the track beneath it. Compare the space beside its centre and ends.

These models explain principles; they are not engineering drawings or forecasts. Real examples, further reading and model limits accompany each learning experience.
